Protest Staged In Franklin County Tuesday
Protesters demonstrated on Tuesday outside the historic courthouse in Union as a response to the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.
Floyd died in police custody. Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes. He has been charged with third-degree murder.
The Washington Missourian reported that more than 100 people had gathered in Union. The protest was organized by Alexandria Gray, a former St. Clair resident now living in St. Louis.
The Missourian reported that both the protesters and police were pleased with the behavior.
In Sullivan, a sign was draped over the James K. Schatz Memorial Bridge saying "I Can't Breathe."
Further demonstrations are planned this weekend in both Crawford and Phelps counties.
