One Purchase Approved, Mayor Appointments Announced At Council Tuesday

The Sullivan City Council met Tuesday, May 19, where they approved the purchase of three SCBA, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus for the Sullivan Water Department, Mayor Dennis Watz provided some re-appointments to a city board, the monthly bills totaling $1,102,905.52 where approved for payment and aldermen provided some items for board discussion.

City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported, that in accordance with the adopted FY2020 city budget, the Water and Sewer Commission John Garner requested authorization to purchase three SCBA units to provide protection to employees working at the well locations in the event of a chlorine gas leak.

The council approved purchase of the SCBA units in the amount of $11,475 from Cam Lock North America. The budget for the items was $20,000.

Hardy reported that Planning and Zoning did not meet this month due to a lack of items for a meeting while the Sullivan Regional Airport Board did not hold a meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Hardy reported that the Sullivan Swimming Pool has been filled and chemicals will be added this week so that the council could move forward with the pool opening should the State of Missouri lift restrictions are lifted and social distancing can be maintained.

Under Aldermen Input, Alderman Tony Wessler asked whether the city had a program where residential cameras could provide video footage to the Police Department if needed?

Administrator Hardy reported that there is a registration form on the city’s website under Police Department.

Alderman T.J. Carey reported that he has received many glowing reviews on the city’s parks system, specifically the walking trails, during the COVID-19 restrictions. The council held some discussions about continuing the North Side Trail to the south at Highway 185.

Alderman Jason Alexander reported he received phone calls in regard to the Sullivan Golf Course and plans to upgrade the existing facility.

Hardy advised that the financial resources of the golf course can be reviewed during the upcoming budget development. Overall, Alexander stated that the course is providing public golf for citizens to enjoy,

Alderman Paul McCulloch reported that he had received some calls regarding an issue on Dunnigan Street and would let staff review this matter.

Sullivan Mayor Dennis Watz reappointed Tim Reinhold and Jarrett Dace to the Enhanced Enterprise Zone board with terms expiring May  2025 and also re-appointed Dale Cottrell and Chase Darrah to terms expiring May 2024.

The council had no matters for closed session and concluded there meeting in just over one hour.
