Missouri State Highway Patrol Planning Monday Press Conference To Promote Water Safety
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is planning a press conference on Monday with St. Louis area fire departments and the St. Louis County park rangers to promote water safety, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
June has been a deadly month on Missouri’s lakes and rivers.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that seven victims have died due to drowning.
Two more victims have died from swamping/capsizing.
The latest fatality is a 14-year-old boy whose body was recovered from Creve Coeur Lake on Thursday night.
The Post-Dispatch reported that the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District recovered the body about 20 feet from the shore after 8 p.m.
The boy went underwater after 7 p.m. and did not resurface, according to the Post-Dispatch.
The incident came just two days after Tarence Johnson, 34, Orvil, jumped off a train trestle and into the Meramec River at Sherman Beach.
Johnson attempted to swim to the bank, but became submerged and was unable to resurface.
