Local Races For April 6, 2021 Election

There are very few races in the Sullivan area Tuesday, April 6; however, in the City of Sullivan, two candidates will seek the office of retiring Sullivan City Collector Judy McPherson.

Sarah Steinbach and Felicia “Lisa” Witt-Koepke will each seek the two-year term for Sullivan City Collector. Neither has held a political office.

In the City of Sullivan, incumbents: Mayor Dennis Watz, Municipal Judge Dan Leslie, Alderman Ward One, Tony Wessler, Alderwoman Ward Two, Kecia Philpot and Alderman Ward Three, Robert “Bobby” Maupin are all running unopposed for two-year-terms.

There were no local races for Sullivan School Board, Spring Bluff, or Strain Japan but one race in the Richwoods R-VII School District with Joel Renfro, Melissa Thurmon, and David Hoffmann Jr., each seeking the two, three years terms.

In other area villages, the Village of St. Cloud will elect three candidates to two-year terms that include incumbents David Barclay, Joanne Barclay, and Sue Bosse, along with Cheri Thexton, Cliff Thexton, and Jordan Thexton.

The Village of Miramiguoa has two candidates for two positions: Marcie Nichols and Carol Licklider seeking the two-year-terms.

The Village of Oak Grove will elect three to office with three candidates filing for two-year-terms with incumbent Richard Ray, Burk Heimann, and Donald Knight seeking the offices.

The Town of Charmwood has two candidates seeking office with three open positions. Don H. Schlitt and Robert L. Crouch are the declared candidates.

The town of West Sullivan has three candidates seeking office for three open positions: Marla Turntine, Donna Harvey, and Zayne Laszlo.

Bourbon/Crawford County

In the city of Bourbon, there is only one race.

Former Ward 2 Alderwoman Mary Heywood is vying with Clifford Crawford for the same position. The seat is not being challenged by incumbent Carl Hammack, who has served on the board since August 2018.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Margie Brine is unopposed.

The Crawford County R-1 School Board has just one race. 

Incumbent Jessica Sutton is being challenged by Deborah Dicus for a one-year term.

Sutton was appointed to the seat in September following the resignation of John Craig.

Five candidates have filed for the Bourbon Fire Protection District's board of directors.

Incumbent Roger Martin is looking for another six-year term. 

Jason Delashmit, Bob Hofstetter, Kenny McGraw and Diane Noltkamper are the four challengers.

There are two propositions in Crawford County. 

Proposition 1 asks voters to extend the one-half of 1% capital gains sales tax for roads, bridges, equipment and other county-owned property.

Proposition 2 asks voters to extend the one-half of 1% law enforcement sales tax that equips, staffs and maintains the county jail.

There are two candidates vying for a three-year term on the North Crawford County Ambulance's board of directors Sub District #2 (Boone Township only).

Paula Shockley and Jesse McClary have filed for the three-year term.
