Inmate Suspected Of Hanging Himself At Franklin County Jail

An investigation is underway after an inmate at the Franklin County Jail was found hanging in his cell November 25.

Sheriff Steven Pelton said Tyler Bailey, 32, was inside his cell, hanging by a piece of bedding he tied above his bunk.

The Missouri State Division of Drug and Crime Control were contacted for an independent investigation as per standard procedure.

Deputies and medical staff initiated CPR until ambulance personnel arrived and pronounced Bailey deceased.

Around 3 p.m., a deputy performing commisary duties was speaking with inmates about their order. One inmate believed another inmates wanted a phone card and opened the cell door to see if that was true.

The deputy was summoned to the cell and found Bailey inside.

Bailey was seen by deputies in his cell during breakfast and lunch. He was inside a module with a large day room and two-story catwalk of individual cells holding 18 inmates.

There were 16 inmates in the area at the time and inmates can close the doors to their cells.

Cameras are located inside the day room area of the module, but due to toilet facilities in the cells, there are no cameras in the cell sleeping area.

Bailey was being held on multiple charges, including unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.
