Hot Meals Held Up, More Volunteers Needed for Meals On Wheels

The Sullivan Senior Center is preparing to start delivering hot meals again during the lunch time, Monday through Friday, but can’t do so without the help of volunteers to deliver the meals.

Currently, 10 more volunteers are needed on a regular basis, plus subs who won’t mind filling in during the absence of those who deliver regularly.

The hot meals will only be delivered within the City limits of Sullivan, and will take approximately 45 minutes to one hour, beginning at approximately 11:15 am. Let us know ahead of time, and you can stay for lunch after your delivery. Those who reside outside the city limits will remain on frozen meals. The volunteer will be given a map of the route, along with driving directions.

The Senior Center is appealing to those who are retired, operate businesses who want to do community service and to the local churches. Sullivan has numerous churches and currently two are participating with regular volunteers.

It’s nice if two people team up to commit to the volunteer position, so when one person is not available, the other can still fulfill the obligation. Businesses or churches can commit to one day a week and make a rotation of volunteers/staff, so that each volunteer may only need to deliver once a month, or less.

Please give the Meals On Wheels a little of your time. It can be very rewarding. The Center has had volunteers who have committed to delivering meals for as long as 25 years or more. All volunteers must complete a permission form for a criminal background check, at no cost to you. Stop by the Senior Center at 730 West Main Street to fill out your form.

We are getting very anxious to get the hot meals up and running again, please help.
