Hernandez Formally Charged In Capitol Riot

A Sullivan woman who was allegedly recorded and photographed during the riot at the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 faces five charges.

Emily Hernandez, 21, has been charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct which impedes the conduct of government business, steal, sell, convey or dispose of anything of value in the United States, disruptive conduct in the Capitol buildings, parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol buildings.

Hernandez surrendered to authorities on Jan. 12 and appeared virtually before US Magistrate Judge Patricia Cohen in Missouri’s Eastern District.

Hernandez must remain in the eastern district, which includes her home in Sullivan.

She is forbidden from traveling to Washington D.C. except for future court dates.

The misdemeanor charges carry a maximum one-year prison sentence.

Court documents allege that Hernandez was recorded in an ITV News video showing rioters storming the Capitol.

Lawmakers were meeting to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Videos from inside the Capitol show rioters outside the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

A wooden nameplate was ripped off the wall and smashed.

Hernandez allegedly grabbed the broken pieces and displayed it above her heard.

Multiple tipsters told the FBI it was Hernandez.

Hernandez is represented by Ethan Corljia. According to reports, Corlija characterized her as a “girl next door…that got involved in a situation she did not want to be put in.”

More than 120 people have been charged in the Capitol riot and the FBI is asking the public’s help in identifying people involved.
