Franklin County Unemployment Falls To 15-Month Low

Franklin County’s unemployment rate plunged to 3.5% in April, the lowest since December 2019.

There were 547 initial claims, the lowest since February 2020 when 288 were made.

County unemployment is under 4% for the first time since November 2020.

Unemployment was 3.8% that month, but rose nearly two points a month later.

It dropped to 5.1% in January, went up to 5.2% in February, then dropped back to 4.3% in March.

The job numbers were lower than the state average.

Missouri’s rate was 4.1%.

According to data provided by the Missouri Department of Labor, more than 7,500 were unemployed in the accommodation and food services industry.

Another 7,794 people were unemployed in the manufacturing industry.

The occupation with the highest number of unemployed was office and administrative support at 7,181.

Adjacent Counties

Crawford County unemployment tumbled from 5.3% to 4.2%.

Gasconade County’s unemployment fell nearly one point, from 4.1% to 3.2%.

St. Charles County continued a steady decline. It fell from 3.4% to 3%.

St. Louis County’s rate ticked down from 4.5% to 4.2%, the fourth straight month it has fell.

Warren County’s rate declined from 4% to 3.4%. That’s the lowest rate since October 2020.

Washington County’s rate dropped from 6% to 4.5%, the lowest since November 2020 when it was 4.3%.
