Former Sullivan Staffer Accused Of Sodomy Set To Be Arraigned Feb. 23

A former Sullivan School District staffer is set to be arraigned for statutory sodomy in Wayne County on Feb. 23.

Freeman Fouts, 35, was charged in November for raping a minor in 2009.

The minor was one of his students at Cape Girardeau Central.

The assault allegedly occurred several times per week between January 2009 and May 2010.

Other incidents occurred in Wayne County and Destin, Fla.

Fouts has been charged with second-degree statutory sodomy in both Cape Girardeau and Wayne counties.

It is unclear if charges have been filed in Florida.

A warrant was issued for Fouts’ arrest in Cape Girardeau County on Nov. 13 and bond set at $50,000. He posted bond on Nov. 23.

Due to COVID-19, in-person hearings have been suspended in the 32nd Judicial Circuit through Jan. 25.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.

Authorities served a warrant on Fouts in Wayne County on Dec. 3 with bond set at $200,000.

Fouts was working at the Washington School District.

He worked at Sullivan from June 2014 to June 2018 as a middle school English/Language arts teacher instructing sixth and seventh grade students.
