Five Ejected From Vehicle Sunday Afternoon

It what can only be described as a horrific scene, members of the Sullivan area emergency services family combined forces to see that five young people, ejected from an overturned motor vehicle,  received air ambulance services to St. Louis area hospitals as all suffered from serious injuries.

Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis arrived on the scene for the 6:22 p.m. accident that occurred on eastbound Interstate 44 at the 226 mile marker, arriving just behind the first Missouri Baptist Hospital ambulance.

“This was a very tough scene when we arrived and Missouri Baptist Ambulance started asking us to assist with calling in air ambulances as we had five patients that were all ejected,” said Lewis. “We also had ambulance arriving to support efforts from North Crawford County, St. Clair and Gerald, in all seven ambulances and five helicopters were used in this effort.”
