Fireworks Will Be Displayed July 2 In Sullivan

The City of Sullivan Independence Day Fireworks display will be held on Thursday, July 2, following action by the Sullivan City Council Tuesday night, March 3, after the city received no bids to conduct a show for the city on July 4.

Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported to the council that with Independence Day, July 4, falling on a Saturday, most fireworks companies are already committed to the day, thus Sullivan did not receive any bids for their $10,000 show for July 4.

Hardy continued speaking to the council, informing them that J and M Displays the company that has launched fireworks for the city since 2014, offered to give the city a credit of $5,000 for the 2020 show due to issues with the 2019 show.

Hardy stated that the city pays for $5,000 of the display while the remaining $5,000 is contributed by other donors. However, Hardy was informed following the council meeting that one of the major donors of the $5,000 has decided not to participate in 2020.

Late Monday afternoon, Hardy told the Independent News that Sullivan Bank has jumped in with a $5,000 donation and other donations are still being sought.

The council has approved going with the Thursday, July 2, fireworks display at a total value of $15,000.
