Fireworks, Fun Run, New Hire Approved By Council Tuesday
The Sullivan City council met in open session on Tuesday, February 20, where they approved a bid for the 2018 Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, Madison Bartle Scholarship Art & Soul Fun Run, and approved the hiring of James Fore to the Sullivan Parks Department.
The council first approved a request from Kylie Feese, mother of the late Madison Bartle, to hold the 3rd Annual Madison Bartle Scholarship Art & Soul Fun Run at the Sullivan Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 5. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will require temporary street closures prior and during the event.
The council approved the request unanimously.
The council accepted the only bid for the 2018 fireworks display at the Sullivan Independence Day Celebration from J&M Displays, for $10,000.
Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported that J&M Displays has operated the Sullivan Fireworks display since 2014 with the city paying $5,000 of the cost along with First State Community Bank and other local businesses donating the remaining $5,000.
The council voted unanimously to accept the bid from J&M Displays.
Alderman Mark Dalton reviewed the city bills for the month and recommended they be approved for payment in the amount of $2,387,675.54.
Sullivan Board of Aldermen praised the progress being made on Northside Trail Project and park, located off Tessa Drive.
Sullivan Mayor Dennis Watz reminded residents to be alert during the upcoming rainy season and flooding for emergency preparedness.
Watz also wished to remind city residents of the, “City-Wide Cleanup,” scheduled for April 9-13, on residents normal trash service day. Further details on this cleanup can be obtained by contacting Sullivan City Hall at 573-468-4612.
The council did go into closed session where they discussed one matter of personnel with no action being taken and a second matter of personal where they approved the hiring of James Fore to the Sullivan Parks Department as a full-time semi skilled laborer at a pay rate of $15.24 per hour.
