Firefighters On Scene More Than 12 Hours After Propane Truck Overturns

Two people escaped serious injury and a hazardous situation was brought under control by firefighters Thursday, March 21 at 10:40 a.m. when a propane truck overturned on Highway A and Indian Creek Bridge, catching fire.

“From the initial report we had this alarm kicked up to a first alarm fire so that automatically other resources would be dispatched to assist,” said Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis. “I arrived on the scene along with 854 and did a size up of the accident in which while there was some fire the truck was not fully involved in fire and we were able to determine the driver and passenger were okay on the other side of the bridge away from the accident.”

Lewis stated that the accident had the truck basically centered across both lanes of the bridge and while their was vapor coming off and some flame firefighters quickly determined that they wanted to keep the propane tank itself cool as the propane burned off from the tank.
