Firefighters Extinguish Shed Fire
Sullivan firefighters could do little to prevent a fire from destroying the contents of a 20-foot by 30-foot shed and the contents inside on Wednesday, July 3 at 3:30 p.m.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 384 Landon Road.
They arrived on the scene within minutes with Fire Captain Damon Sumpter reporting a small shed fire, detached from the house that was 70 percent in involved.
“We arrived on the scene and the homeowner informed us that he had just finished cutting the grass and pulled his lawn mower into the storage shed as rain was coming,” said Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis. “All we could do was extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading or damaging any nearby property.”
Ten firefighters using some 700 gallons of water and four apparatus extinguished the fire that not only destroyed the garage and mower but reportedly an ATV and other contents in the building, which is owned by Mike Wheeler.
Wheeler informed Sullivan Police in his 911 call that smoke and flames were showing as he was calling them and there was a mower and 2.5 gallons of fuel inside.
There was no other damage to property and no firefighters were injured in this incident.
