Elvis Freed From Culvert Pipe Three Days After Disappearing

Local residents of the Meadow Lark Estates, located off Highway WW, Sullivan, and Sullivan Firefighters, worked through thunderstorms and driving rain Wednesday late afternoon after a beagle, missing since Monday, was located by subdivision children walking home from the school bus.

Elvis had become trapped some 90 feet in a culvert drainage pipe, unknown to his owner, who had been searching for him since Monday, April 5.

Kelly Behrends, who lives in the subdivision, reported that the children first heard Elvis when they got off the school bus Wednesday afternoon.

“The kids first located Elvis when they got off the school bus in the drain near the owners home,” said Behrends. “They ran home screaming that there was a dog underneath the ground. So I jumped up a grabbed a shovel and we ran straight to where we heard Elvis barking, echoing from the end of the culvert pipe. He was a good 90 feet in the middle of the culvert.”

Stephanie Bartle reached out to Elvis’s owner who quickly ran down to the area and Sullivan Fire was dispatched to attempt the rescue.
