Early Morning Wrong Way Driver Causes Accident Wednesday

A wrong way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes from Sullivan’s 226 mile marker to the 234.6 mile marker caused an accident that injured two people, Wednesday, March 25, at 6:10 a.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Matthew S. Maxwell, 41, Mineral Point, was operating an eastbound 2019 Chevrolet Impala in the westbound lanes of Interstate 44. A westbound 2016 Chevrolet 2500, driven by Jeffrey R. Moore, 37, Moscow Mills, attempted to avoid the wrong way driver by steering to the left shoulder when the front right of the Maxwell vehicle struck the front right of the Morris vehicle.

Maxwell received minor injuries and was transported by St. Clair Ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, for treatment while Morris was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital, Washington, for treatment.

Both vehicles received extensive damages.
