Eagle Lanes And Fun Zone Set To Open Soon

A buzz of construction activity has been centered around the former Sullivan Bowl as a second generation is looking to bring the once thriving business back to a new era as Gary, Jim and Brenda Biermann have begun a massive remodel project on the inside of the facility since purchasing it.

The Biermanns have owned the building but the history of the project dates back many decades to 1956.

According to Gary Biermann, “In 1956 my father and mother Clarence and Betty Biermann started Dairy Queen in Sullivan and then sold it in 1958 where they purchased the old bowling alley on the South Service Road. In 1956 my folks partnered with John and Agnes Melloh and built this bowling alley we have today. Then in 1966 my parents sold their portion of the alley to Marvin Dorson and in 1974, Marvin sold his half to Emmet Schlueter. Then in 1976 John Meeloh sold his half to Tom Slezak and Slezak then bought Schlueter out in 1982 and this year Brenda, my sister, Jim, my brother and myself purchased it from Slezak and started remodeling immediately.”

According to Biermann, he and his siblings have all owned their own businesses and know that you have to make the customer happy to be successful.

The renovation project is also a way for these three to honor their parents and the beginnings of what has been an incredible life of bowling in Sullivan.

Coming on board to assist the Biermann family in the project is longtime bowling manager Roy Ruble, who has spent many years operating Steelville Bowl and is excited to be in Sullivan and a part of this project.

The facility will now be known as Eagle Lanes and Fun Zone, which has been completely remodeled from floor to ceiling. It includes a brand new state-of-the-art scoring system on 18 new televisions, a Retro Rock & Roll Diner that will be serving hand-scoped shakes and malts along with black angus ground chuck burgers from Frick’s, brick oven pizza, wings, fries and salads all in a new contained room; a fun zone arcade area for children will be bigger and better while adults can go to the 21 and over Bier Haus, which will feature Sullivan bartending legends Rhody Foth and Brenda Biermann.

The facility will be smoke-free except for the new Bier Haus, which has newly-installed smoke eaters to keep the smoke impact at a minimum in the bar area.

The facility will host leagues once again along with birthday parties for children and adults.

The business, located at 645 Missouri Avenue, can be reached by calling 573-468-4140 and they will be open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
