Cuba Will Hold Special Election To Break Aldermanic Tie

The city of Cuba will hold a special election this summer to break a tie in the race for Ward 1 alderman.

During the June 2 election, incumbent Warren Graddy and challenger Harold Halbert each received 64 votes with one write-in.

Crawford County Clerk John Martin said Tuesday that the city will pay for the election. Cost will be $7,000 to $8,000.

Martin said each candidate was given the opportunity to withdraw and both declined. They also were given an opportunity to find some way to break the tie, whether that meant flipping a coin, drawing straws or even pulling the high card off the deck. That wouldn’t work either, so the election will head to a run-off.

According to Martin, the election will happen before the August 4 primary.
