Cuba Man Killed In Highway 19 Crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Cuba man was killed April 17 when a tractor trailer crossed the center line and struck his vehicle on Highway 19.

Sergio Navarro, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the patrol, a 2004 Western Star tractor trailer driven by James Kramer, 32, Park Hills, swerved to avoid striking an unidentified vehicle. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck Navarro’s 2009 Chevrolet Express van.

A 2011 GMC Yukon driven by Betty Counts, 40, Steelville, swerved to avoid striking Navarro’s vehicle. Counts crossed Lindberg Road and came to a rest against an embankment.

Kramer was uninjured.

Counts was not wearing a safety device and was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital for moderate injuries.

Two juvenile occupants — ages 15 and 12 — also had moderate injuries. They were wearing safety devices.
