Cuba Man Accused Of Assaulting Paraplegic, Stealing Painkillers
A Cuba man was arrested Dec. 17 after he allegedly assaulted a paraplegic and stole his painkillers.
John-Paul Burke, 25, has been charged with stealing a controlled substance and third-degree assault.
According to the probable cause statement, the victim owed Burke money. Burke came to his residence and the victim said he paid Burke, but after that, Burke and another male assaulted him.
The victim said Burke took a bottle of medicine and also attempted to take his wallet and phone.
Burke and the unknown assailant left the residence.
The victim is a paraplegic from a birth defect.
A sheriff’s deputy said there were injuries consistent with being assaulted according to the probable cause.
Burke was arrested three days later on an unrelated case.
