Crime Roundup For Week Shows Fireworks, Burglaries, Counterfeit Money

The Sullivan Police Department completed a week of calls that included 33 fireworks reports along with reports for shed and vehicle burglaries and circulating counterfeit $100 bills.

According to Sullivan Police Lt. Patrick Johnson, officers responded to 33 fireworks alarms in the city limits of Sullivan which are against city ordinance.

Johnson reported that officers provided several warnings to residents that this is a fineable offense and they needed to cease operations.

Among many problems were discharging fireworks at the Sullivan Fairgrounds where large crowds had gathered.

A delay in the City of Sullivan Fireworks display, due to earlier rain in the area, caused many to get disruptive and several to dangerously launch fireworks in a very populated fairgrounds which is strongly prohibited.

Officers responded to multiple shed break-ins and a vehicle break-ins during the week. Shed burglaries were reported in the 1100 block of South Service Road on Monday, July 1, with two battery chargers being appropriated; July 1 at 375 Springfield Road where Jerry’s TV reported attempted theft and break-in of a service vehicle; July 2 in the 200 block of Jackson Street where a shed was broken into and items missing being inventoried and July 7 in the 600 block of Madison Street where shed was broken into with a trimmer and other items stolen.

Officers also responded to Orlando’s Boy’s Produce, 453 Springfield Road, for a report of a counterfeit $100 bill being passed at the business and discover at the bank once they attempted to deposit it.

Officers are reviewing video of the business to determine a suspect.
