Crawford County’s Canine Helps Locate Missing Hunter

A missing hunter in the Leasburg area was located Thursday night with the help of Crawford County’s canine, Max.

Sheriff Darin Layman said an elderly hunter became lost and disoriented.

Family members attempted to search for him and were unsuccessful.

Deputies responded to the 2700 block of Highway MM and set up a perimeter.

Personnel from the Leasburg Fire Department, North Crawford County Ambulance, Sullivan Police Department and Missouri Conservation responded to assist in the search.

Max, the county’s canine, was deployed and he located a scent trail. This led deputies directly to the lost subject.

“The group effort by all agencies involved is a standard for what our local first responders do on a daily basis, and it does not go unnoticed,” Layman said in a press release. “Thank you to all who assisted, and thank you to Crawford County Communications for helping facilitate the response and their support on the other end of the radio.”
