Council Reviewing How To Distribute Proposition P Funds

The Sullivan City Council met Tuesday night for a public hearing to review the $22.4 million budget and discuss how to distribute funds that will be collected from Proposition P.

Proposition P was passed by Franklin County voters last April, which will increase sales taxes. Collection begins Oct. 1 and funds will be distributed to law enforcement districts throughout Franklin County in January.

The council directed City Administrator JT Hardy to review how other municipalities intend to distribute the funds. Pay increases are scheduled across the board for all officers.

Sullivan's budget did not have Proposition P funds included.

The council also wanted to discuss whether it should hold back a portion of the taxes in the event a downturn in the economy affects collection.
