Council Receives Request For Liquor License Change

The Sullivan City Council received a request on Tuesday, July 7, during their regular meeting from business owner Alana Ryan and the Clark Street Cafe, regarding the sale of liquor near schools and churches.

Ryan stated she would like to see it reduced from 300 feet to 100 feet due to the business being located near the Sullivan Alternative School. Ryan would like to host small events on Clark Street's new outside patio.

The council expressed concerns about changing the overall ordinance and how it may affect other entities.

The council encouraged Ryan to discuss this with the impacted area and determine if they would be opposed to receiving a waiver in the area.

Mayor Dennis Watz stated the ordinance affect other protected entities, and he felt the council needed to do more research.

Two other requests before the council were presented. These included Kathy Bertim, who notified the council that the nuisance issues she was going to bring before them were rectified; thus, she withdrew her request.

Temple Baptist Church received permission from the council for the closing of Beeman St., on Thursday, July 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for their annual Vacation Bible School Family Night.
