Council Declares Building 'Dangerous', Property Owners Notified

The Sullivan City Council voted March 20 to declare a building in the 200 block of Woodrow Street 'dangerous' and the property owners will be notified.

City Code Administrator Dan King presented a history of the violations at the property owned by Clayton and Clayton Enterprises.

King stated that the property is damaged inside as well as outside and the property owners have had the opportunity to repair, renovate or demolish it but have yet to do so.

Clayton and Clayton Enterprises were not present for the dangerous building hearing and were sent a certified letter regarding the hearing on March 5.

Prior to the certified letter for the public hearing on the dangerous building, the city began issuing multiple violations on the property beginning in 2011 and since October 3, 2017 the issues have remained.

Multiple letters were sent to the property owners since October 2017, according to King.

The council concluded the public hearing and went into open session where they later voted to declare the property a dangerous building and to notify the property owners that they have 30 days in which to respond.
