Council Approves Two Ordinances, Other Issues Tuesday

The Sullivan City Council approved two ordinances, payment of the monthly; bills totaling $1,272,099.32, a bid for parking lot resurfacing at Sullivan Police Department and met in closed session regarding two matters of Litigation Tuesday, February 18.

The council received a report from City Administrator J.T, Hardy who reported on two different emergency purchases made for the Water and Sewer Department recently that included a new lift station pump for Lynwood Lift Station following a failure at a cost of $17,054, to rebuild the pump would have cost $12,000. The Water and Sewer Department budget did have replacement of a lift station in this years budget.

Hardy reported the second items for Water and Sewer Department was an emergency pump purchase in the amount of $17,511.50 for Well #2 in the City of Sullivan, which is one of the largest water producing wells in the city. The failure occurred on January 29, and due to being deemed an emegerency to bring back into service the commissioner and administrator took appropriate actions to restore the well.

Hardy reported that this item was also budgeted in this year fiscal year budget.

Hardy presented the council with bids for the resurfacing and additional parking lot spaces for the Sullivan Police Department with the low bid being submitted by Donald Maggi Inc., Rolla, in the amount of $42,133/15 along with a $6,280 addition to include a dumpster pad area. 

The council accepted the low bid option one from Maggie unanimously with it’s closest bid from Jokerst Paving, Festus in the amount of $51,448 and a high bid from Lejas Corporation, Tempe, Arizona in the amount of $171,278.

The council approved payment of the monthly bills unanimously in the amount of $1,272,099.32 following review by Alderman Mark Dalton.

Two Ordinances were approved in the City of Sullivan that included: 

Ord. 3881. which approved funding in the amount of $9,297 to be used to compensate special enforcement of driving while impaired efforts in the Sullivan Police Department through the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Program;

Ord. 3882, approved consolidation of Lots seven and eight of block seven in Williams Addition located at the corner of Warren and Sarah Streets owned by Clinton and Thelma Kramer and requested on their behalf by Attorney Brice Breeden. The property is zoned residential one.

The council did go into closed session to discuss two matters of litigation with no action being taken by the Board of Aldermen.
