Council Approves Request For First-Ever Turkey Trot

The Sullivan City Council approved on May 21 a request by Maggie Heidbrink of Anytime Fitness for the first-ever Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.

Anytime Fitness chain is teaming up with Special Olympics and the event will benefit Sullivan Special Olympics. 

Heidbrink said that many residents to Washington, Eureka and St. Louis participate in runs on Thanksgiving.

The route would be different from many other events in that it would start and conclude at Anytime Fitness inside the Dickey Bub Plaza and travel on Cumberland Way, Springfield Road, Clark Street, Main Street and Church Street.

Heidbrink feels that the event will be held early enough and the fact that the event occurs on a holiday where many businesses are closed that traffic road closures should not be a factor.
