Council Approves Budget And Bid Tuesday Night

Following a public hearing held Tuesday, September 4, the Sullivan City Council approved its Fiscal Year 2019 budget showing a balance forward of $23 million with $22.4 million in revenues and $22.4 million in expenditures.

The budget received unanimous approval by the council and became Ordinance 3806 following months of work by council members, city staff and City Administrator J. T. Hardy.

Hardy concluded his report to the council regarding the budget informing city residents that there are no increases to water and sewer or electric in the Fiscal Year 2019 budget.

This action continues a multi-year trend by the council to hold utility rates at existing levels.

The council received three bids for the demolition of property located at 449 South Olive with the bids for razing what is remaining of the home being awarded to AK Britton Construction, LLC, Cuba in the amount of $3,800. Two other bids were received from KR Wilson, Sullivan, $4,690 and Midstate Paving, Inc., $6,000.

The council did accept the months and times of operation for the new Sullivan Route 66 Splash Park, in “Sunny” Jim Bottomley Park from May 1, through October 1, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The council did conduct a closed session meeting with two matters of real estate discussed with no action being taken.

The board will meet on Thursday, September 13 at 7 p.m. for its second monthly meeting due to a Missouri Municipal League Conference to be held Tuesday, September 18, the night of its normal meeting time.
