Council Accepts Property From County In Busy Meeting

The Sullivan City Council met on Tuesday, June 5, approving the acceptance of property from the Franklin County Commission, approving a liquor license and reappointments to various boards by Mayor Dennis Watz.

The council approved a liquor license request from Carlos Hernandez on behalf of Southwinds Restaurants, 617 Missouri Avenue, which will now become El Sol. The license was approved unanimously.

Under City Administrator J.T. Hardy’s report, Hardy informed the council that Franklin County had acquired property located at 760 South Service Road, formerly Chinese Buffett, as a result of the owner failing to pay taxes owed. The commission approved the transfer of the title of the property to the City of Sullivan at no cost.

Alderman Jason Alexander presented a motion to accept the property, which was seconded by Alderman T.J. Carey and approved unanimously.

Hardy also added that the commission would be transferring property from 260 East Euclid and 72 Oak Street to the city as well.

Hardy reported that the Village of Oak Grove requested and received an emergency water connection on May 22, due to maintenance on one of their water towers. The Village used 357,000 gallons of water during their time and was invoiced $5,162.22 for the service. 

Alderman Input was held with Alderman Mark Dalton clarifying that members of the Meramec Community Fair Board are made up of volunteers and are not part of the City of Sullivan.

Sullivan Mayor Dennis Watz asked the council to approve several re-appointments to various city board and received unanimous approval on the following: Larry Heiner and Gary Krammer were re-appointed to Planing and Zoning Board through May 2022; Dave Adams and Greg Krueger were re-appointed to Sullivan Regional Airport Board till May 2021 and Alan Mastin was re-appointed to Tree Committee for a term ending May 2021.

The council did go into closed session where they discussed two matters of litigation and two matters of real estate with no action taken.

The council will next meet on Tuesday, June 19.
