A Convoy Is Coming-80 Historic Military Vehicles

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, join Sullivan Police Department as they welcome the Route 66 Convoy. The convoy is an event that is organized by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) in which up to 80 historic military vehicles will retrace the 1926 Route 66 Convoy.

Established in 1976, the non-profit MVPA is dedicated to providing an international organization for military vehicle enthusiasts, historians, preservationists, and collectors interested in the acquisition, restoration, preservation, safe operation, and public education of historic military transport. The MVPA organizes these "convoys" to retrace historic routes that were used in the days of old.

The convoy will start their 29-day journey in Chicago,IL with their ultimate destination being Santa Monica, CA; covering a total of 2,448 miles. They are scheduled to be in Sullivan at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and will be pulling off of Springfield Road into Jim Bottomley Park-parking area near Cracker Barrel.

This will be a unique treat for those who enjoy military antiques and history. The MVPA, and its members, have worked tirelessly to restore these vehicles and are true experts in that area. They are planning to stop for 20-30 minutes before continuing on their journey. Other active and retired military personnel will also be present and available to speak to.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to see history brought back to life. You can read more about the MVPA at www.MVPA.org and you can follow the live progress of the convoy at www.convoyontheair.org.
