Class of 2018 Commencement Held Friday Night
The Sullivan High School Class of 2018 held their commencement on Friday night, May 18 inside the SHS Gymnasium due to weather conditions that prevented the event from being held at the SHS Athletic Stadium.
The Class of 2018 featured 141 graduates that took part in the program in which they honored the SHS Class of 1968.
Those speaking during the commencement included Valedictorian Libby Jones, Salutatorian/Class President Dharma Merkle, Presentation of the Top Ten Seniors-Dr. Bart Denbow, Assistant Principal, Presentation of the Honor Graduates, Jason Merkel, Assistant Principal/Activities Director, Presentation of the A Plus students, Jessi Payne, A Plus Coordinator, Recognition of the Class of 1968, Dr. Thomas Allen, Superintendent and Presentation of the Class of 2018, Dr. Jennifer Schmidt, SHS Principal.
Music during the commencement was provided by Sullivan High School Choir with, “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” while the SHS Band performing. “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The Class of 2018, Class Motto: “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind,” C.S. Lewis; Class Flower: Sunflower; Class Colors: Black and Gold; and Class Song: Congradulations by Post Malone.
According to the commencement program 88 students out of the Class of 2018 qualified for the A Plus program, 48 received College Prep Certificates, 69 that graduated with honors.
Members of the Class of 2018 also wore a purple and yellow ribbon in memory of their classmate, Ashley Yates.
