City Will Make Decision June 2 On Pool, Splash Park

With the State of Missouri expected to announced changes in the battle against COVID-19 the City of Sullivan is expected to decide whether they will open the Sullivan Swimming Pool Complex,  Route 66 Splash Park and other parks facilities that are currently closed.

Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported Thursday that Parks Department has moved forward with preparing the Swimming Pool Complex and Route 66 Splash Park in anticipation of possible opening in June should restrictions be lifted.

“We are working to repair some hail damage to the slide at the Sullivan Swimming Pool Complex but we have filled the pool and began all chemical treatments with the facility,” said Hardy. “We are also preparing the Splash Park in the same manner should the council determine to open these facilities as further guidance is provided regarding COVID-19.”

This past week Sullivan Parks Department crews have began completing a new pavilion area at “Sunny” Jim Bottomley Park, installing the roof to the facility.

Summer baseball leagues announced last week that they would not be holding their seasons this year due to current COVID-19 restrictions but future baseball/softball tournaments by outside groups have not been determined at this time as the State of Missouri, counties and cities begin to transition into the next phase of COVID-19.
