Burglars Target Church, Local Businesses
Although they may not all be connected burglars once again began to target local businesses this past week as thieves for the third week in a row targeted Frick’s Market, for a second time hit First Assembly of God Church, Sullivan Bowling Alley, and for a second time Nikki’s Barber Shop. A fifth burglary appears to have been solved at Jekyl and Hyde’s Sports Bar/Nightclub on Fisher Drive as Sullivan Independent News went to press late Monday, November 6.
On Friday morning, November 3, Sullivan Police were called to First Assembly of God Church, 951 Elmont Road, after a thief or thieves broke into the church and destroyed offices, a soda machine and other items. The thieves got away with a safe containing an undetermined amount of money.
Sullivan Police reported that the safe, which had wheels, appeared to have been rolled out of the church and taken to a nearby field where a sledgehammer, grabbed from the church storage area, was used to destroy the safe and gain entry to any money inside.
