Blush Boutique Open In Downtown Sullivan

A return to days gone by continues to flourish in downtown Sullivan. A young entrepreneur has again selected the area as home for a traditional “downtown value” to their business.

This past week saw Blush Boutique, 65 North Clark Street, relocate from St. Clair to Sullivan and complete their first week in business with strong results.

The Blush Boutique brings the American Dream back as Tawny Taylor, owner/operator, graduated from St. Clair High School in 2008 and then attended the University of Central Missouri earning a degree in fashion with a minor in business administration in 2012. Taylor knew all along that she wanted to operate her own business.

On Aug. 1, 2014, Taylor realized her dream by opening Blush Boutique in St. Clair.

“One day I was driving through St. Clair and saw a store front for rent and in my mind I knew I had a business plan already in place, so I got it out and made this happen,” said Taylor from her new store front in downtown Sullivan. “I have been into fashion since I was a little girl and it was something that always came natural to me.”

Taylor stated the move to Sullivan was just part of the dream as she wanted to have her business in the downtown area of a community.

“The building location here in Sullivan really has that downtown feeling of what I always dreamed of and what I wanted to get to,” said Taylor. “This building is just a better fit for the business and the market I’m targeting.”

Taylor stated that she attends fashion shows in Las Vegas, Nev. and Dallas, Texas each season to research what products will be available for each upcoming season and what will fit her business plan and store front.

Does being in a small downtown area for retail sales versus a strip mall or traditional mall setting in a larger community prevent Taylor from seeing larger results?

“In the Blush industry this trend of boutiques getting away from the larger developments and returning to small towns-a support local trend, was predicted some seven years ago,” said Taylor. “I really enjoy the small town feel, the support local businesses trend and really we offer product lines that are not in your big mall stores.”

Blush Boutique carries everything from clothing to handbags to accessories and shoes with clothing sizes from small to 3X and shoe sizes from 5 1/2 to 11. The age group catered by the business ranges from 14 and up.

“I do all of the ordering and purchasing myself for the boutique,” said Taylor. “I hand pick all the inventory.”

Taylor relocated the business in Sullivan opening on March 23, and the business move appears to be a strong move for the future.

“Blush had an amazing first week, very busy,” said Taylor. “I received lots of flowers and support from many of the local businesses and people in the community and so far it’s been a very welcoming community and very busy.”

Taylor felt that all of the new businesses that have recently located into the downtown area all complement each other very well and will continue to bring customers to the downtown area.

Blush Boutique is open Tuesday though Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
