Area First Responders Receive Exceptional Life Saving Award

Area first responders received an Exceptional Life Saving Award presented by the East Central Regional EMS Committee.

Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital paramedics and Sullivan Firefighters were dispatched to a local restaurant on Dec. 23, 2019 for an unresponsive person, which was soon upgraded to a cardiac arrest.

Amy and her husband Jim were traveling through town and stopped to get something to eat. Soon after, Amy collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Her husband Jim immediately began chest compressions.

Soon, EMS and fire personnel arrived and began administering life saving medicine, interventions as well as continuing high quality CPR.

Ironically, a doctor who was also traveling through town had stopped at the same restaurant and noticed what was happening. He, too, began assisting emergency personnel. The patients pulse was regained and she was transported to Air Evac Lifeteam 13 - Sullivan, MO flight paramedics/nurses who continued care and transported Amy to a St Louis Medical Center.

Thankfully, due to quick administration of CPR by her husband, and the continuation and coordination of patient care between local emergency responders, Amy is alive today.

She and her husband were able to visit with the crews.

Crews were awarded life saving certificates and pins by the East Central Regional EMS committee.
