Troop I Reports 3 Accidents During July 4 Period

Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported just three accidents during the Independence Day counting period.

The period lasts from July 3 at 6 p.m. to July 4 at 11:59 p.m.

None of the three accidents occurred in Crawford County and no major injuries were reported.

The first accident occurred July 3 in Pulaski County when a 2011 Acura MDX driven by John Martinez, 37, Ballwin, was exiting Interstate 44 at Highway 17 and failed to yield, striking a 2010 Hyundai Elantra driven by Jannella Matthews, 32, Waynesville. Matthews’ vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Matthews had minor injuries and her vehicle had moderate damage. 

On July 4 at 2:05 p.m., a 2012 Ford Flex driven by Lella Fulton, 35, Lebanon, was slowing to make a turn and struck by a 2014 Dodge Ram driven by Dalton T. Shipley, 24, Lebanon. Fulton’s vehicle traveled off the road and overturned. 

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Fulton had moderate injuries, but sought her own treatment. 

Both vehicles received total damage.

The accident occurred on Highway 5 at Independence Road in Laclede County. 

A similar accident happened later in Phelps County. A 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by Laura McCutcheon, 18, Rolla, was making a left turn on Highway 63, six miles north of Rolla, when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2008 Pontiac G6. The driver was Asia R. Lee, 25, Columbia.

Lee’s vehicle received total damage.

Lee, McCutcheon and a passenger, Kyle McCutcheon, 15, Rolla, all had minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts.
