Shave & Flave Open For Business

Just in time for the extreme summer heat comes Shave & Flave, a shaved ice stand owned by husband and wife, Philip and Amanda Moreland.

The business is located on Highway C, less than a half mile from the outer road and behind Half-Crocked Antiques.

The Morelands opened the business on June 25 and have had a great response from customers. "It's exceeded everything," Amanda Moreland said. "The whole community has been awesome. People have been shaking our hands for bringing this to our town."

"People have said they like the backyard feel," Philip Moreland said.

Picnic tables are set up on both sides of the stand if customers want to enjoy their treats in the shade.

They've had the idea to open the stand for a few months now, inspired by childhood experiences. Philip Moreland's aunt had a stand he visited in Jefferson County. Amanda Moreland's family used to take trips to Ted Drewes in south St. Louis.

Not only do customers have 50 different flavors to choose for their shaved ice, but also can cool down with sweet tea, which Amanda Moreland learned from her grandmother. Customers can make it a sweet peach tea or add another syrup flavor.

Snack on nachos, Frito pie with or without jalapeños, six different types of Ted Drewes custard cups and stuffed soft pretzels with beer cheese, chipotle cheddar, jalapeño and cheese, salted caramel and sweet cream cheese.

The pretzels are specially delivered and can only be purchased from Shave & Flave.

Shave & Flave is open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
