Sales Tax Increase Boosts October Revenue 41 Percent

Crawford County saw a 41 percent jump in general revenue sales tax in October thanks to the increase passed by voters in April.

October was the first month the county could begin collecting the new tax, which will run through December 2023.

Revenue would have been up over the October 2017 amount. County Treasurer Catie Ringeisen said the Missouri Department of Revenue sent a check for more than $8,000 that included the money from the new tax.

If the county didn’t have the tax increase, it would have brought in more than $81,000, which would have topped the October 2017 collection of $64,050.

As it stands October revenue exceeded September, which has been one of the strong months of collection for the county.

The tax increase also helped the county exceed where totals were this time last year. Crawford County is up more than 10 percent from 2017.

Due to the tax increase, the county must amend its 2018 budget to reflect unforeseen revenue.

LEO/Capital Improvement

The law enforcement and capital improvement sales taxes were up 28 percent. Those taxes remain unchanged.

The county collected nearly $73,000 from those taxes in October.

At this time, the taxes have been brought in nearly $980,000, up from $921,908 at this point in October 2017.
