One Killed, Seven Others Injured In Seven-Vehicle Accident Sunday

One person was killed Sunday on Interstate 44 when a tractor trailer crossed the median and overturned, causing six other vehicles to sustain damage.

Eric Uhrhan, 21, Scott City, was fatally injured. Uhrhan was the driver of a vehicle struck by the towed unit of a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer, driven by Gurjit Singh, 31, Fresno, Calif.

The accident occurred at the 198 mile marker in Phelps County. St. James Police, Phelps County sheriff's deputies, Crawford County sheriff's deputies and Cuba police assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the investigation.

Uhrhan was pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County Coroner Andy Davis at 2:36 p.m.

He is the first fatality recorded by Troop I in July and the 16th in 2017.

According to the highway patrol, Singh overturned and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Alex W. James, 29, Sullivan, and a 2014 Toyota Camry, driven by Sarah C. Turner, 66, Tulsa, Okla. Turner had moderate injuries.

Uhrhan attempted to avoid the collision by changing lanes in a 2016 Ford F-150 and struck a 2012 Harley Davidson, driven by Glen E. Paasch, 73, Rosebud.

Paasch was ejected and had serious injuries. He was airlifted to University of Columbia Hospital.

Uhrhan came to a stop on the shoulder and the unit from Singh's truck struck his vehicle, causing him to overturn. Two other passengers in his vehicle, Zachary Carlyle, 21, Scott City, and Ryan Fortner, 22, Scott City, had minor injuries.

A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Nelson C. Glock, 72, Ellisville, was struck by debris from Singh's vehicle. Glock was uninjured.

A 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jennifer K. Laclax, 25, River, Ill., struck an embankment and avoided the collision. She was uninjured.

Gurjit had minor injuries. Megan James, 32, Sullivan, was a passenger in the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu and had minor injuries.

Justine L. Thompson, 68, Shawnee, Okla., was a passenger in the 2014 Camry and had minor injuries.
