Mayor Confident Pine Street Will Be Completed

Bourbon Mayor Danny Skaggs said on June 18 that he is confident the Pine Street rebuild will be completed by the end of the year.

Skaggs was asked by Ward 2 Alderman Carl Hammack if Dick Rammstein, who is the engineering lead on the project, “has done what he needs to do.”

The mayor reported that Rammstein has begun some of the work. He found manholes buried under “three or four” inches of pavement and has shot some elevation.

“It’s still going to happen,” Skaggs said.

The city must complete the project by the end of the year or risk losing the money received from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

Ward 1 Alderman Dave Lafferty said he had been asked by a resident if it was going to be done. Lafferty told him it was in the works.

Skaggs agreed that everyone was “getting antsy.”

He told the board it would be a “two to three month” project and the gravel has to sit. Once the city gets the plans, they have to be put out to bid.

Skaggs reminded members that even if they accept the lowest bid, it may not wind up being the one agreed upon by officials in Jefferson City.

“I’m worried about this, too. Trust me,” Skaggs said. “I call Dick about every other week. I know he knows what he’s doing. I’m trusting that he’s going to come through like he always does.”

Hammack asked if the possible meeting that was discussed at the May board meeting had come to pass. The plan was for the city to meet with officials from the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) and Rammstein, but Skaggs said nothing had been set up.
