Martin Disqualified From August Ballot

The race for presiding commissioner is down to two.

Former District 1 Commissioner and one-time Crawford County Sheriff nominee Richard Martin won’t appear on the August ballot after Judge Kelly Parker ruled Tuesday that he failed to file a financial interest statement by the April 17 deadline.

Martin did not appear in court for the hearing.

County Clerk John Martin filed a Petition for Disqualification of Candidacy on May 4. Martin’s petition said that Richard Martin signed a form titled “Notice to Candidate” prepared by the Missouri Ethics Commission. Candidates were required to file financial statements by April 17 and not including them would result in disqualification.

On April 19, the Missouri Ethics Commission notified John Martin that the statements had not been filed.

Martin’s disqualification leaves incumbent Leo Sanders against challenger Diane Ijames. Sanders is seeking his third term.

The primary is Aug. 7.
