General Revenue Collection Surpasses 2018 Totals

Crawford County’s general revenue collection surpassed the entirety of the 2018 total during July, but it was the second straight month where the sales tax increase propped up what would have been a decline.

The county collected $117,711.59 in July, up from $83,449.05 in July 2018.

Overall, the county has deposited $1.323 million into general revenue.

During 2018, the county collected $1.258 million total.

However, July saw just a 41 percent increase during the same period last year.

During a recent budget review, County Clerk John Martin said the tax increase, which runs through 2023, helped the county avoid what would have been a $38,000 decline compared to June 2018.

The sales tax was running strong from December 2018 through May 2019.

Traditionally, July has been one of the slowest months of collection.

August has been one of the strongest months. Figures won’t be released until early September.

LEO/Capital Improvements

The separate law enforcement and capital improvement taxes saw 24 percent declines for the second straight month.

Collection was just $55,763 for both, down from $73,777 in July 2018.

The revenues declined by 8.5 percent in May and 24 percent in June.

There have only been two months during the 2019 collection where revenues were up compared to the same month in 2018 — January (6 percent) and April (22 percent).

Each fund has collected around $632,550 during 2019.
