City May Hire Boast Enterprises To Manage Sewer Services
The City of Bourbon may look into hiring Boast Enterprises to manage its sewer services, with a decision hinging on whether a qualified applicant comes forward.
Doug Montgomery, who manages the system now, tendered his resignation and July 19 was his final day. Montgomery leaves on good terms and has accepted a job elsewhere.
Mayor Danny Skaggs said he has been in communication with Jared Boast, whose company already handles the city's mowing.
Skaggs said Boast could manage the treatment plant for a month, six months or even longer.
"We have to wait until (July 25)," Skaggs said Tuesday night at the board of aldermen's monthly meeting. "We need someone with a Class C license."
Skaggs said they have received one applicant who worked in Florida, but this person doesn't have the Class C license that's needed.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the regulatory body that oversees wastewater treatment, will give the city time to sort through its options, but a plan is needed, Skaggs said.
"They're not going to shut it down, but we have to keep it clean," he said.
A special meeting is planned next Tuesday and Boast will work up a proposal for the board to look over. For an emergency proposal, the board would not have to put the service out to bid. If the city decided to have a company permanently manage its services, it would have to go out to bid.
