City Cancels Fall Trash Collection

Bourbon council members on Tuesday agreed to Mayor Danny Skaggs’ proposal ending the fall trash collection after tires and propane tanks were thrown into the dumpster.

The dumpster was set outside the city shed and residents could put trash — including tires as long as they were quartered — inside, but Skaggs was outraged at what workers were pulling from it. The dumpster was set out twice per year.

“I’m not having our guys jump in to get tires,” Skaggs said. “As far as I’m concerned, the fall is dead.”

Skaggs said even if the board disagreed, he would go above it and contact Swinger himself to cancel the dumpster being set out.

“It’s not an issue to bring up,” Skaggs told the board. “We can talk about it in the spring.”

City worker Mark McEuen said at last count he and Mike Gazaway pulled 20 tires and eight propane tanks.

“That’s idiots,” Skaggs said. “Idiots. I’m not asking the employees to do something like this.”

If the city resumes collection next spring, the board discussed possibly having it set somewhere it could be easily monitored.
