Bourbon Superintendent Announces Retirement

Crawford County R-1 Superintendent Patricia Thompson announced Friday that she plans to retire at the end of the 2018-2019 school year, effective June 30.

Thompson, who is in her ninth year as superintendent, informed the board of her decision at Thursday’s meeting, saying in a memo to staff that “the time has come to pass the torch.”

Thompson has been part of the Bourbon School District for 23 years and intends to spend more time with family.

“I will forever treasure my time here and know I have been blessed beyond measure to be a part of this school district,” she said, adding that her experience would not have been the same without continuous support from the board, staff, students and community.

Thompson began her career in education 29 years ago. She joined the Bourbon staff in 1996 as a Title I reading teacher for third through fifth grade students, then taught a Title I double-staffed third grade class. She became elementary school principal in 1998 and succeeded Dr. Thomas Sharp as superintendent in 2010.
