Plans Underway On New Building Construction

A new building included in the Bourbon School District’s $2.5 million bond issue is in the final schematic design phase.

Construction is anticipated to begin this November.

Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs is hopeful it will be ready for students in the 2021-22 school year.

Gibbs said the building will be around 8,600 square feet and cost $1.5 million.

Bourbon will use it to teach STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), education, and agriculture.

Originally thought to be a standalone structure in the area between the high school and softball field, Gibbs said the decision was made to connect it to the school.

A closed-in walkway will connect the buildings.

The agriculture science and STEM classrooms will be larger with lab space.

Bourbon will pursue a STEM curriculum after hiring new principal Matt Peregoy away from Sullivan. Peregoy was part of Project Lead The Way at SHS.

“Matt has a vision for the program and making it truly STEM,” Gibbs said.

Bourbon hired Hoener Associates to provide architectural design and Facility Solutions Group for engineering.

The final construction drawings are scheduled to be complete by Sept. 22 and a pre-bid meeting Oct. 13.

FSG will review bids and provide a recommendation by Oct. 14-15. The construction contract is scheduled to be awarded by Oct. 15.

Construction hopefully gets underway by November.

Other Projects

Bourbon is nearly done renovating the bathrooms at the elementary school.

The secure entry, also at the elementary school, has bids out.
