New School Calendar, Policy Revisions Set For Board Meeting

The Bourbon School Board is scheduled to meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with a lengthy list of information and action items.

A public hearing will be held at the beginning to hear “suggestions, criticisms and concerns of the proposed 2019-2020 school calendar.”

The board is tentatively scheduled to discuss financial statements and hear evaluations on from district counselors and a Pathways grant from Darla Adair and Kevin Koppelmann.

Along with administrator reports and the student advisor reports, members are scheduled to discuss the MSBA Spring Regional Meeting, which will be held in Bourbon next month.

Policy information on the academic calendar, teaching about human sexuality, programs for gifted students, promotion, acceleration and retention of students, graduation requirements, assessment program, assignment of students to grade levels/classes, student counseling and public information are scheduled.

Facility planning also is scheduled.

Action Items

The board is scheduled to approve Fiscal Year 2020 salary step increases for certified staff and endorse John Craig as the regional executive committee chair.

Policy revisions to school board elections, school board ballot issues, taxing and borrowing authority and limits, depository of funds, federal programs and projects, part-time and substitute employment and criminal background checks are scheduled to be approved.

Policy GBAC must be adopted, which concerns staffing and employing retirees. 

Policies regarding retirement of staff members and retirement of support staff members must be rescinded.

The board also is scheduled to approve the school calendar, employee insurance plans, a municipal lease bus specification revision, student slots for RTI/RTC next year and summer school application.
