County Revenue Dips To Lowest Point Of 2019

Crawford County’s general revenue took a big hit in October as the collection hit its lowest point in 2019.

The sales tax brought in just $106,897.06, which is just an 18 percent increase over last year.

Without the additional sales tax, the revenue would have been the lowest October total since 2017.

Despite the dip, county general revenue is up 65 percent this year.

More than $1.9 million has been collected through October.

The county was coming off two straight months of record-setting collection.

In August, Crawford County brought in $314,527.27 and in September, $212,939.

Since the sales tax increase went into effect in October 2018, Crawford County has collected more than $200,000 three times. In May, collection fell a little more than $500 short of reaching the $200,000 mark.

The law enforcement and capital improvement sales taxes each suffered blows.

The two separate taxes each fell to $53,135 in October, which was a 27 percent decrease from last year.

Since December 2018, those taxes have suffered year-over-year drops in six out of 10 months.

The October total is the lowest of the year. The previous low came in July when it fell to $555,763 from $73,777 the previous year.

However, both taxes have brought in more than $938,000 for the two funds.

Last year, $1.079 million was collected.

The law enforcement tax helps the county make its jail bond payment.
