Committee Opening Grants Up To Skilled Care Facilities

Crawford County’s CARES Act committee will be making funds available to long-term care facilities in the coming weeks.

District 2 Commissioner and committee member Jared Boast made the announcement Tuesday.

“We will be contacting licensed care facilities and opening up applications for them if they want,” Boast said.

The CARES Act committee is overseeing the distribution of $2.8 million in funds.

So far, the committee has distributed around $110,000 and the deadline to apply is Dec. 15.

Boast said the committee has discussed opening up the funds to private businesses, but they are in the process of “figuring out how to do that.”

“We need to establish the criteria and make sure it complies with (US Treasury guidelines),” he said.

The committee is made up of Boast, chairperson Lesa Mizell, attorney Bill Lange and accountant Darrell Layman.

Presiding Commissioner Leo Sanders acts as an overview.

Sanders urged any of the county’s taxing entities — ranging from school districts, to ambulance districts and more — to reach out.

“We need people to understand that if they want to apply, you need to get that application in,” he said.

Sanders swatted away speculation that CARES Act distribution could extend into 2021.

“There is no official word that they’ll extend anything,” he said. “There’s nothing that would even justify speculation.”

New Recipients

Boast also announced that two more recipients have been approved for funds.

Applications

Applications must be mailed to Mizell at:

Crawford County CARES Act Committee

Attn: Lesa Mizell

904 W. Washington St.

Cuba, MO 65453

The application also can be dropped off Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba.

Any funds that are not disbursed must be sent back to the government.

Funds cannot be used for loss of revenue, only COVID-19 related expenses.
