BHS Students To Hold Food Drive

Students from various Bourbon High School organizations will be dropping off bags throughout the district on Saturday, Dec. 5 and are asking residents to fill them with canned food items.

Items will be picked up on Saturday, Dec. 12.

The food drive is replacing the typical Scouting for Food Drive held by the Boy Scouts of America.

This year’s Scouting for Food was canceled due to concerns over COVID-19.

BHS Principal Matt Peregoy, who has been involved in Scouting for Food, said that the high school reached out to the community for a joint effort.

“I know that the Scouts normally provide about 4,000 cans of food for pantries in Bourbon and Leasburg,” Peregoy said. “We felt that we couldn’t let that happen to families who rely on those pantries for food items.”

The food drive will be held in cooperation with Town & Country Bank, Bourbon Fire Protection District and the high school.

Students from FFA, FBLA and Student Council will canvass the district, similar to what the scouts do. They will drop bags off door to door and return Dec. 12 for pickup.

The items will be counted, boxed and delivered that day at the Bourbon Fire House.

Peregoy said citizens may drop off bags on Tuesday evenings at the fire house or Town & Country Bank between Dec. 5-20.

The fire auxiliary will have a collection site at Town & Country Supermarket every Saturday until Christmas.
